Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! In fact, at the moment I only offer virtual appointments.

Sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant platform (Simple Practice).

Meeting online is super convenient and works surprisingly well for ADHDers!

What if I have a hard time focusing online?

Don’t worry if you don’t think you’ll like meeting virtually. It’s not the same as in-person, but I tend to think it’s even better in some ways.

As a visual learner, I’m a big fan of screen sharing and using images to understand concepts. And if you tend to get restless easily, we can work on focusing in real time (I’ll call you in - not out - if you get distracted).

Plus, I love seeing glimpses of your pets and your homes!

I live in Durham, North Carolina—and yes, it does matter where you live.

As of now, I am only able to see clients who currently reside in North Carolina.

Hopefully, one day there will be something like PSYPACT for non-psychologists, but there is not currently.

(Indiana licensure is in-progress as of July 2026)

Where are you based and does it matter where I live?

Do you see couples?

Not in my therapy practice. I have worked with many couples and family systems over the years, and I’ve learned that I prefer to do targeted work around specific issues rather than general couples therapy.

I have a separate coaching practice where I work specifically with couples, many of whom are neurodivergent, on effective communication, perspective taking, and division of labor (with a focus on invisible labor/mental load). Check it out here.

How do I get started?

It’s easy! Just send me an email (erin@clancycounseling.com) or fill out the Connect form here.

I offer a complimentary 15-20 minute consultation to get to know each other a bit and answer any questions you may have.

If we decide to work together, we’ll schedule an intake session which is our first session.

What is a superbill and how does reimbursement work?

A superbill is essentially a receipt, and it’s only applicable if I am not in-network (rather, out of network or OON) with your insurance.

If you are paying me privately, you have the option to submit the superbill to your insurance and request partial reimbursement for out of network services.

I recommend calling to verify your out-of-network coverage first.
